Sobre Patricia
Hi! I’m Patrícia, a Luso-Canadian tutor and a graduate of the University of Aveiro. Although I’m Canadian, I grew up in a family with strong Portuguese roots and have lived practically my entire life in Portugal, in a fishing town deeply connected to the sea and Portuguese culture.
I’m naturally curious and genuinely enjoy learning. I’m always looking for new ideas and ways to improve both my lessons and my teaching approach.
I have a Teaching Certificate, which allows me to provide training in different areas, as well as an academic background in Gerontology, a field that has taught me a great deal about people, communication, and empathy.
I have around one year of experience teaching English online, and during this time I have worked with more than 60 students. Some have continued learning with me to this day, which I’m very grateful for, as it allows me to closely follow their progress. I’ve helped students gain confidence communicating in everyday situations, prepare for job interviews, and improve their professional communication. Seeing them grow, become more confident, and achieve their goals is incredibly rewarding.
I also have experience giving presentations and lectures to groups of more than 200 people, which has further developed my communication and public speaking skills.
In my lessons, I like to be prepared and have a clear structure, but without making the learning process feel rigid. I like having clear goals, while also leaving room for spontaneous conversations when they naturally arise.
Travelling, meeting new people, and connecting with different cultures are an important part of my life. I have friends from many different nationalities and often find myself helping them with Portuguese, explaining expressions, or clarifying cultural differences. Through these experiences, I realised just how much I enjoy sharing the Portuguese language and culture.
Now, I want to bring everything I’ve learned from teaching languages to European Portuguese: the importance of building confidence, adapting to each student, and making learning practical and natural.
In my lessons, you can expect to learn not only how to speak Portuguese, but also to discover Portugal through the language: everyday expressions, informal language, some slang you’re unlikely to find in textbooks, and little insights into our culture and way of life.
Whether your goal is to live in Portugal, communicate in everyday situations, travel, work, or simply feel more confident speaking Portuguese, I’m here to help you get there.

Are you living in Portugal but still feel nervous speaking Portuguese? Do you understand Portuguese but struggle to speak? My lessons focus on real conversations and the Portuguese you actually hear in everyday life.
I have experience teaching languages online to students from different cultures and backgrounds, and I’d love to help you too!
In my European Portuguese lessons, the focus is on conversation and natural communication. My goal is for you to be able to use Portuguese outside the classroom — whether you’re chatting with a friend, at work, travelling, or simply going about your daily life in Portugal.
Each lesson is carefully structured and adapted to your level and goals. I use guided conversations, real-life situations, articles, images, exercises, and interactive activities to turn theory into practice.
As we talk, we’ll also work on vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar, with corrections and explanations throughout the lesson.
I like creating a relaxed and welcoming environment where you can speak, experiment, make mistakes, and learn without judgement.
