Sobre Joel
Firstly, I love to teach! With over 15 years of experience delivering workshops and teaching one-to-one I have come to understand what works and what doesn’t and am able to tailor sessions to the student’s needs. I find it hugely rewarding to see a student discover and develop their skills so that they can embark on their own learning journey with confidence, and it is wonderful to see unique, personal styles emerge. I pay attention to making lessons and terms accessible so that experience does not hold anyone back. As well as offering bespoke lessons I also really enjoy developing more structured courses, such as a six-part soundscape design course I recently designed and delivered.
I am dedicated to my craft and am deeply connected to sound in all its forms. Through my studies I have gained an understanding of how we as listeners interpret the sounds we hear, and I enjoy sharing this knowledge which helps my students apply these ideas to their own production. My teaching method is to take a holistic approach to audio production, making my lessons more than just music by numbers.

With over 15 years’ experience of producing electronic music, and recently acquiring my MSc in sound design, my teaching methods are unique. Not only do they include sampling, drum programming, various forms of synthesis, mixing and mastering, etc. they also touch upon creative sound design techniques, field recording methods, psychoacoustics, and various listening modes. Knowledge in these areas of audio production can help expand one's creative scope and set one apart from other producers. Via these methods, students not only gain experience in music production, but also sound design techniques for TV and Film, interactive sound design, audio branding, sonification, and UI and UX sound design. These are all fields which offer exciting and creative employment opportunities.
Lessons can be tailored to fit the interests and experience levels of the student, from beginner to advanced, and are always practical and student led. Production platforms include Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and MAX/MSP.
