I’ve been learning Portuguese with Ian for almost two years now.

My first lesson was a month before I visited my partners family in Brazil for the first time, and we focussed on basics, enough to allow me to have simple conversations.

Since then, we have made incredible progress. Ian’s laidback teaching style, and a focus on conversation as a medium for reinforcing previous learning has helped me gain confidence and grow my knowledge of some more technical parts of the language.

You will end up spending a lot of time speaking with your teacher, so it’s important that you can mesh well. From day 1, Ian has been supportive, encouraging and kind. I’m glad that I decided to message him here on SuperProf, and proud to now call him my friend.

Ian is that type of teacher that pushes you to do your best and that also makes you want to go to class. Throughout my 7 years going to my english school, the semester that Ian got to be my teacher was absolutely the best. I was going through the phase where I didn’t want to go to class anymore and was making up excuses not to go. However, Ian changed my perspective about learning and having fun and that’s why i appreciate him a lot as a tutor and especially as a person. He has all my respect and my gratefulness for not letting me give up on learning this language.

I met Ian through an exchange program at the United States, and he is indeed a Superprof!! His energy is unmatched, and he shares knowledge with such glee that he could even talk about paint drying and I’d listen haha. Ian knows a lot of facts, but he shares them in a quiet and serene way, which is not bad at all for me. He may not be as extroverted, but I do not think that is a bad thing, and for me that just adds to the way he teaches. He is very observant and takes care of all his students with a lot of love, and having him accompanying me at the exchange program was a blast. It would have even been better to have him as a teacher full time for me!

Ian has been an English teacher for many years in the best english school in Curitiba. In 2020 he started teaching online because of Covid-19, so he also has experience with that.
He is a tremendously funny guy, I'm sure his students love him to bits.
