It all started in school, when I started a foreign language class (Portuguese) and decided to find a language exchange partner who spoke Portuguese as a first language to help me. After finishing my class, I maintained our friendships and continued helping others learn English.
Exchanging languages became a passion and I could observe the people taking my instruction transitioning from a beginner level to intermediate and advanced. By this point, I have helped speakers of not only Portuguese, but also languages ranging from Vietnamese to Russian.
All too often, students attend a commercial English school for years and become skilled in grammar, only to try to speak and make basic conversational mistakes that should have been practiced early in their adventure! I believe that the formula to learning English is the concurrent practice of technical aspects, such as grammar and vocabulary, in tandem with active communication practice. This allows learners to have a complete grasp of the English language. After all, the final goal is to be able to communicate.

I have been teaching English to foreigners for many years now. It began as a hobby but became more serious as I watched my students progress from beginner to advanced levels under my instruction. I am patient and I speak clearly. I believe that it is essential for a learner to not only learn, but also to intimately understand what is being learned. For this reason, I give in depth explanations that give the student the explanations and tools they need to develop entirely.
