Sobre Ustad Fazel
USTAD FAZEL SAPAND (Herat, Afghanistan).
In 2001, he started the first local music course on the north road of Herat Masjed Jameh (The Herat Greatest Masque), where he would study for seven years.
In 2008, for the first time in the city of Herat, the professional and artistic school of Ustad Kamaluddin Behzad established the field of music from the seventh grade. Also in 2008 he became a member of the JAWANAN-E-RAZAKAR Club (Young Volunteer Club) at the Red Crescent Society where he taught music to orphaned children for three years.
Simultaneously with his education in 2010 he started his art training activities with Professor Sakineh Yaghoubi's private educational institutes. Also in 2010, he started to be a professor of music and Persian language and literature (Farsi) and founder of the Honarestan-e-Tarana Music Academy, the first academic center for music education in Herat.
In 2012, he held his first modern music workshop with the MORCHAHA Music Band led by Masoud Hassanzadeh in Herat.
In 2016 he received a Tabla award for presenting a lecture on Tabla and the rules and principles of Indian Rhythm at the graduation ceremony of the Agha Khan Cultural Foundation.
In 2017, he was awarded a certificate in the field of Delnawaz presenting a lecture on the new instrument called Delnawaz and its similarities with the Delroba instrument.
He was graduated in Persian (Farsi) Literature in 2018 from the University of Herat. In the same year, he officially established a music department at this institute and was appointed as head of music department professor of Persian Language and Literature (Farsi) for sixth to twelfth grades. Also in 2018, in collaboration with the Nowandishan-e-Jawan Association, he held a modern music workshop for women.
Nowadays he lives in Lisbon and works as a musical performer and a teacher of his tradition. Since he arrived in Portugal he has played and recorded with musicians such as Rodrigo Leão, Davidde Zacarias, Maria João or Salvador Sobral. He also works in projects such like Lisbon Poetry Orquestra, Além Cabul, Orquestra Todos, and also he makes solo performances of Afghan, Iranian and Indian traditional music and dance.

Target audience: musicians and music lovers
In Ustad Fazel Sapand's classes you can learn practice and history of singing and traditional instruments from Afghanistan, Iran and India: sitar, robab, tabla, harmonium and oud.
You can bring your own instrument (piano, guitar, percussion, etc.), whatever it is, to practice these traditional styles with it and develop some skills through other traditional techniques and repertoires, improvisation, and other scales and rhythms that will open your mind to other sensibilities and expressions.
He gives group and private lessons in Lisbon and online. It's an opportunity to learn Afghan, Iranian and Indian culture through music and language, with practice and theory together in a very organic way.
